Dollywood Travel Tips
Where do I even begin to talk about how amazing Dollywood is! Tucked away in the Smoky Mountains of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, Dollywood is a theme park that is truly one of a kind! Over Memorial Day Weekend, my husband and I took a three-day trip to Tennessee-first day to Dollywood and the other two days to Nashville. It was our first time at Dollywood (and Tennessee, too!) so we were experiencing it all for the first time!
Since it was my first time there, I was in awe taking in the sights and sounds of the park! I kept saying to my husband how much I appreciated that the park was fitted and themed to the environment around it. I felt like a got a true taste of the great state of Tennessee and my experience there made me fall in love with the state!
Dollywood has something special for everyone whether you’re a thrill seeker or just want to take in the beauty of the park! Here are five things to do at Dollywood that you should check out if you’re planning on taking a trip to this amazing park:
Enjoy a Festival
No matter the time of year, there is always so much in store at Dollywood! While you’re planning your trip, consider going during one of the festivals or special events including the Flower and Food Festival, Smoky Mountain Summer Celebration, Dollywood’s Harvest Festival or Smoky Mountain Christmas. Taylor and I went during the Flower and Food Festival and enjoyed seeing the topiaries and eating the delicious festival food. The Flower and Food Festival ended on June 5th but I highly suggest checking it out next year!
Ride the Dollywood Express
During your visit, make sure a ride on t he Dollywood Express is on your bucket list! This steam engine takes you on a trip around the outskirts of the park and throughout the ride, there is a tour guide giving fun facts and history about the park. It’s a great way to relax and enjoy an additional scenic view around the park.
Take on the Thrills Rides
I’ll admit, I’m not the biggest roller coaster fan so I’m not one to gravitate to rides and roller coasters when I go to theme parks. BUT there are plenty of people who are so if you do enjoy the rides, go check out Dollywood’s thrilling rides and coasters! Thrill seekers will love rides like Wild Eagle, Tennessee Tornado and Lightning Rod. The park also has many family and kids rides so there is something for everyone.
Try the Cinnamon Bread
Alright, I would be doing a disservice to everyone if I didn’t say go to Dollywood’s Grist Mill and get the authentic Cinnamon Bread! It is literally one of the best things I have ever eaten, and I regret not getting a second loaf to take back to our hotel! I believe you can also get the Cinnamon Bread at other locations but Grist Mill is the famous location. We loved it so much, I ended up buying a sweatshirt that features the Cinnamon Bread on it and Taylor bought a t-shirt that says, “Cinnamon Bread Junkie!”
Take in the Sights and Sounds
My final tip may seem like a no-brainer but really, take time to take in the beauty and uniqueness of this theme park! The park is themed so well and is truly one-of-a-kind! Whether you’re looking at the Smoky Mountains with a coaster in the foreground or taking in the beauty of the fountains and water wheels, Dollywood is truly so special.
